“Context-Aware Recommendations for Multiple Users in the Home”
In this talk, Miklas Strøm Kristoffersen will present the main findings of his PhD project, which has been concerned with context-aware recommender systems targeted towards the home environment with multiple simultaneous users.
Users of shared multimedia systems in homes face an increasingly complex task of selecting content for consumption that will fit their immediate situation. A system that can effectively improve users’ decision processes with relevant content suggestions in a diverse range of consumption scenarios is therefore highly desirable. Driven by a growing availability of contextual knowledge provided through a steadily expanding range of sensors embedded into the home environment, this work proposes methods for providing recommendations that automatically adapt to users and their contextual settings.
Overall, the work contributes with 1) data suitable for developing and evaluating reproducible recommender methods within the television domain, 2) understanding of contextual patterns and relevance of contextual attributes to the recommendation process, and 3) high-quality recommendations based on nonlinear contextual modeling.
The project has been carried out under the Danish Industrial PhD program and has been financed by Bang & Olufsen A/S together with Innovation Fund Denmark.
